On March
13-16, 2008 a historic event, Winter Soldier: Iraq
and Afghanistan, was held in Silver Spring MD.
Dozens of Iraq veterans, members of Iraq Veterans
Against The War (IVAW) testified about what is
really happening in Iraq and Afghanistan and its
effect on the Iraqi people and on their own mental
health. Military families also testified.
The event got little mainstream press attention.
Only Democracy Now
carried
long reports on four successive days. The full
DN shows can be seen at the following
links: March 14,
March 17,
March 18,
March 19.
Other videos can be seen at IVAW’s
website here.
Since not everyone has time to view the many hours
of testimony, we have compiled from these videos a
53 minute video of the testimony of Jon Turner,
Joyce and Kevin Lucey, and Kristofer Goldsmith —
some of the most emotional and compelling testimony
of the weekend.
The videos require QuickTime. You
can view the video here in
your web browser (be patient and let it load for
a few seconds). If you view the video in your
web browser you will need a fast internet
connection, and if it stutters and stops then
pause it and let a bit load and then play
again.
If you use the link above, you will not be able
to save it to your disk unless you have QuickTime
Pro. If you
want to download it to your disk and save it to
view later, right click (PC) or CNTL click
(Mac) here. Be
patient as the file is 275 MBytes and will take
about 30 minutes to download even with a fast
internet connection.
